The family of Amos Langat is demanding justice after an autopsy confirmed he sustained seven gunshot wounds at close range, allegedly at the hands of police officer Mohamed Yusuf Keinan.

Langat lost his life on Sunday night in Amboseli, Kawangware, after a dispute at a pool hall turned deadly. His family revealed he was shot four times in the stomach and three times in the chest.

Despite the severity of the case, Keinan has not been formally arrested. He is reportedly hospitalized and remains under police guard as investigations continue.

Mourning relatives and friends gathered at Chiromo Funeral Parlour, where they received the autopsy results.

Also present were officers from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), who have launched a probe into the incident.

The findings confirmed what the family had feared the most.

"Jamaa wetu amepigwa risasi ya kifua imepasua roho tumeona tukalia, tuko na mpango wa kupelekea nyumbani mtu wetu amekufa hivyo (Translation: Our kin was shot in the chest, which pierced through the heart, and we saw and cried, we have plans to take him home as he is ours and he died like that.)," said Langat’s brother, Enoch Langat.

His friend, Joel Chemisto, expressed his shock at the brutality of the shooting.

"Alikuwa amepigwa risasi kadhaa kwa tumbo, mimi mwenyewe nikihesabu ilikuwa around saba. (He was shot severally on the stomach, I counted the bullets and they were seven)."

What started as a night out at a pool hall ended in bloodshed, leaving Langat’s family struggling to come to terms with his death.

"Tunaomba serikali itusaidie. Amos ni kijana mdogo, ameoa juzi, ako na mtoto mdogo sana hata hajui nini inaendelea. So tunaomba tu usaidizi kama familia, kama rafiki pia, nasisidiza tusaidiwe Amos apate haki take," Chemisto pleaded.

This translates to: We are asking the government to help us. Amos was a young man and he recently got married and had a very young child who doesn't even know what is happening. So as the family and friends we are asking for help, for Amos to get justice.

As the family makes arrangements to transport Langat’s body to Bureti, Kericho County, they are still uncertain about the burial date but remain firm in their pursuit of justice.

Keinan, meanwhile, remains at a local hospital, citing hand and shoulder injuries.

Detectives say they are waiting for a medical report before determining the next steps in the case.
